Our first gifts...and still shocked!

Well, I doubt it is the pregnancy yet, but I know I have been glowing today! Again, I have just been overwhelmed with how many people have been praying for us and loving us! I got to school this morning, and before 7:00 am...there's a "Congratulations" card! People hugged me and smiled at me all day long and it was GREAT! Then this afternoon, our foster doggie's new mommy met me at the vet for his last heart worm treatment and brought our first baby gifts!

Some Nelly Negativepants (to use my sister's terminology) of course asked me if I was sure I should be announcing it since it was so early...YES! I have been telling people for 10 years that if I ever got pregnant, I'd SHOUT it from the rooftops and the whole world would know!! Well, that's exactly what I did. IF something goes wrong with this pregnancy, well, support would surely be nice. You can't really be supportive of something you don't know about....

In any event, I'm still shocked and really wish I had someone with me when I took the call because I am so surprised still and wonder if it was real!!! I'll go in Monday to check and see what the HCG numbers are...they should have doubled about twice. They are not the end-all, be-all decisive factors of a healthy pregnancy, but sure is a nice indicator when they are high!

In the mean-time...pictures of our first gifts--from friend and neighbor, Beth.

The cute little bear is holding a sweet and soft little blankie. I LOVE the bibs!!! I love them so much that I feel like I should wear one that says "Mommy loves ME!"

John also got me roses and a card...the card was pretty funny. It's your run-of-the-mill "Congratulations, you did it!" card...but his inscription is great--"Lori, apparently they don't make cards that say 'Congratulations! You're my baby-mama!'"

I told him they don't make those cards YET. Just wait. I swear, I need to go into the card making business!!

  1. Lori,

I am so happy for you. I'd announce it too. To heck with the Nellys!

    Best (and lot of prayers)

  3. Ohhhh the cards thread again. Let me try, "Congrats, your sperm and egg are compatible." "Hey, looks like all those shots paid off". There's tons more I could go for, but how about just, "Congrats -- I'm CERTAINLY glad it's you and not me!!"

  4. Hi Lori,
I am so so happy for you! As I am waiting to find out how many of my eggs fertilized, I am so encouraged by your cycle and certainly encouraged that your are pregnant and maybe with twins!! Anything is possible! I am so glad that you are truly celebrating your pregnancy. God is good!!!

  5. It sure was mean of those people to say that to you! How dare they. If I knew who they were...
The love and support from my friends is the only thing that got me through my miscarriage and if I hadn't told them as soon as we found out we were pregnant, it would have been really hard for me to tell them after it happened.
But the ONLY thing we are going to hear from you in the coming days is that there are TWO healthy heartbeats!!! God put us together for a reason I think:)

  6. My dear friend Lori,
I am so excited for you and John. There are simply no words to describe the joy I feel for you. I just wish I could have still been living down the street from you so that we could have screamed and cried tears of joy together.

Thank you for sharing your story so openly. You have been completely honest throughout this journey...so why would you keep the incredible news of your pregnancy to yourself! :-)

I am praying for you and for the little one or little ones you are now carrying. Talk to you again soon.

  7. Well I, for one, am TOTALLY hoping both implanted! I know how much work it will be, BUT I am here to tell you that in many respects 2 at once is also much, much easier that staggering them. I have done both (more or less. Kai & Grace ar 10 months apart.)

OK cards. How about "thanks for being my own personal incubator?" or "I vow to give you updates to let you know your ankles are still there when you can't see them anymore." Or even "you are an amazing woman for going through this and I'm glad it is your nurturing body that will be home to RFBF for the next 9 months."

    Congrats again!

  8. Hi Lori,
I've been following your blog recently. I WISH I had known you 10 years ago. Your story is so similar to ours. I teach elementary school (1st and 2nd) and went through almost everything you did. It took us almost 10 years- we adopted our son from Kyrgyzstan in '07. We have not gotten pregnant yet, but were ecstatic to bring our little one home. And we are in the waiting process hoping to bring our second son home from Kyrgyzstan SOON! I was thrilled to hear about your miracle! Awesome news! Thanks for sharing your story.

  9. Congrats! I found your blog from Mandy's horsie blog. I'm an embryologist and it's always interesting to see what the patients think. The view from the other side of the embryo, so to speak.

Again, congrats and best of luck.
